Exhaustion

So, I've just spent the past three hours going through my entire music library with the MusicBrainz Picard, an open source desktop tool written in Python that scans music files and checks the tags against the MusicBrainz database. Everything I actually listen to had already been done previously, but I've never actually gone through my entire library before.

I still haven't actually done it all; there are a few things which need further investigation into, (MusicBrainz isn't always accurate, so I double check things manually against both Wikipedia and Discogs.com) but I'm now the closest to having a perfectly tagged music library than I've ever been before.

What makes the whole process even more annoying is that since I've passed the download quota at home, I've had to do all this at my uni, using the on-campus wireless internet they supply. I'm probably going to go home now, and I'm pretty tired. -_-

Stuff

Okay, so I have been planning on writing some interesting things for my journal, but at the moment, I've been tied down with other stuff to do, so I'm not. Consider this entry an update of sorts.

I really don't like Wednesdays. Uni starts at 8am and finishes at 11. Today it was raining, I was tired, and I wanted to work on an assignment instead, so I didn't go. Anyway, later on I heard on the news that it had apparently seriously flooded, and the entire region I live in was apparently classified as a natural disaster zone (see this for a news story). I was inside all day, so didn't see anything, but I did NOT know the rain was that bad. O__o

It's weird how the hardest class I'm taking seems to be Japanese, which has absolutely nothing to do with any of my majors. I'm just doing it because it's awesome, the same reason I'm studying everything else I'm studying. But it is hard. And tiring. Especially kanji. I have to know so much kanji.

I've also been working on a programming assignment that's due on Friday. It's not that hard - I basically just have to write a program in python that works similar to the game "Mastermind", except where the user guesses numbers instead of colours.

We also ran out of downloads for the month barely two weeks in, and my net access has been sporadic as a result. Anyway, we went to look at our ISPs website, and apparently it turns out they've been offering a plan with a larger limit for the same price as the one we're currently on, but haven't told the people using the existing plan that they can upgrade to it. Which isn't surprising considering the way those companies work. Sigh.

Ohh yeah.. and as for music, now, Infected Mushroom are nothing new to me, but until recently I've greatly underestimated disc 2 of their album "Converting Vegetarians". I've been listening to it a lot over the past few days, and some of the tunes are really good. It deviates a lot from their psytrance origins, but it's all really, really good stuff, and there isn't a single song I don't like. Listen to one of the songs here if you're interested.

Anyway. That is the end of my update post.

Damn.

Damn. I completely forgot about it.

The 29th of April, Wednesday last week, happened to be the first year anniversary of me switching to the Dvorak keyboard layout from the standard QWERTY one. In that time, I've become fluent at the layout, now typing in the 100-110wpm range.

Seriously, how could I have forgotten about the milestone? I specifically took note of the date, and yet still I forgot. Oh well..

So... I've had my account on Dreamwidth for a couple of weeks now, but haven't gotten around to posting on here, introducing myself properly, or doing anything much yet. I blame the cold that lasted for quite a while, combined with all the assessment that came up over the past few weeks.

Anyway, so hi, anyone who reads this. I'm a student doing a dual degree in Science and Arts. My main interests generally all fit into philosophy, mathematics, societal issues, computer stuff, and music. I'm going to major in either maths or physics for the science half of the degree (I'm only in my first year, so still thinking about that), but I'll be majoring in philosophy for the arts part.

I've used LiveJournal before under a different account name, but I'm not notable or anything, and I feel like starting fresh here, so I'm not going to import any of my old stuff. Also, all my posts on LJ are from quite a long time ago, so they're rather outdated anyway.

I'm also really into music. At the moment, I'm really digging psytrance and ambient, but I'd like to be able to say my tastes are rather broad, and all that's really required for me to like something is for the artists to simply have talent.

I'm really, really excited to be on Dreamwidth. I've been following the progress of the site for quite a while, and I'm really glad it's gotten to where it has.

I'll also be posting a shorter intro to [community profile] dreamchasers, most likely.

Yeah, so I have a dreamwidth. They've been giving out randomised invite codes to OpenID users who had set an email address, and I managed to get one, so I'm happy.

Anyway, enough of that, I'm going to go explore now.
